Green Design

Environmentally Sustainable Development (ESD) is a prerequisite of responsible architecture, so what does it mean to your project? Designs that minimize life-time energy and resource use, such as water saving and re-use, reducing heating and cooling needs are all things that immediately come to mind.

Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD)
So what role do internal panel linings play in ESD?

Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is the world’s most rigorous forest product labeling scheme. It is the only forest label supported by environmental groups such as the World Wildlife Fund, Greenpeace and The Australian Conservation Foundation, and by major forest product retailers.

Supawood is certified under the FSC chain-of-custody certification number SCS-COC-001901. Only by purchasing from a chain-of-custody certified supplier can you be sure that the timber products used are actually contributing to the environment. The assurance that the material sold is actually FSC is an invoice which clearly states both FSC type and the supplier’s chain-of-custody number on each line item on the invoice.

Supawood’s green option interior panels under the FSC programme have been chosen for use in some of the highest Green Star rated buildings built in Australia in recent years. The green option for our wall and ceiling panels eliminates negative environmental impact through careful material sourcing and manufacturing methods. Where our client has specified ESD initiatives throughout their design, Supawood works in close cooperation with the design team throughout all stages of a project to achieve the highest rating level possible in green design and to win the client’s approval by complying with the most stringent requirements.

Where have Supawood green panels been used?
Bank Headquarters at King Street Wharf, Sydney

The Bank Headquarters at King Street Wharf, Sydney is a fine example of the type of project where the design team chose Supawood’s interior panels. Awarded a 6 Green Star office design rating this project has established a new benchmark in environmental sustainability and workplace functionality. Supawood’s Supacoustic chill-beam timber screens in spotted gum veneer as well as Supacoustic custom slotted metallic silver-finished ceiling, bulkhead and wall panels were used in this project.

Is going green expensive?

The extra cost of supplying panels certified in FSC would typically be less than 5% compared to non FSC panels in most cases.

How do I specify FSC Green Panels?

To ensure you receive the correct green panel product please specify as follows: “Panels are to be FSC certified. Documentary evidence in the form of an invoice with each line item annotated with the FSC content and supplier’s chain-of-custody number must be provided for project completion.” Our aim is to improve design to minimize our impact on the world’s resources. Supawood’s environmentally friendly product options are the superior choice for your next green design project.
