SUPASLAT MAXI creates focal point for Queensland shopping centre ceiling

Posted By: Colin Beattie   1st, June 2022

A mix of straight blades and SUPASLAT MAXI beams have been used in the Runaway Bay Centre redevelopment to create a feature ceiling that brings warmth to a light, airy space.

The architect, Buchan, was engaged early on in the redevelopment process of the centre, with a brief to create a casual dining precinct. The concept was based mainly around the ceiling, aiming to have a feature ceiling be the main focal point of the whole scheme.

Being very cost conscious with the project, the architect worked with SUPAWOOD very early on in the project, to discover how we could work together to create a cost-effective outcome, without jeopardizing the aesthetics, quality of the product, or the original design intent.

Commenting on their collaboration with SUPAWOOD, Senior associate at Buchan, Anthony Tai said:

“They were really good in providing us with details and suggestions around how their manufacturing process works, and we were able to fine-tune the design to suit their processes to minimize wastage, and to make transport easier, which all makes the install onsite as quick as possible”.

Through the development of the design, SUPAWOOD presented 3 options to the client before a final product was chosen that fit their tight budget, whilst also maintaining the original design intent.

The use of SUPAWOOD product is the application of mixed straight blades across the main ceiling areas, with the SUPASLAT MAXI beams used in a vertical feature in the middle of the dining precinct. This acts as the focal point of the space.
