Decorative ceiling transforms old into new
The redevelopment of a popular shopping centre in Brisbane’s northern suburbs needed a decorative but functional lining system to cover an ugly open industrial roof structure and eliminate the warehouse atmosphere. The designers chose SUPACOUSTIC panels as SUPAWOOD could supply and install a complete system customized to the builder’s needs.
The 28 years old centre has now been renamed Aspley Hypermarket and taken on a new direction to accommodate major retailer changes. The transformation by designers Gray Puksand Architects has created a pleasant, more upmarket and welcoming shopping experience for patrons.

The old mall ceilings had been left open to the steel structure of the building shell and all the services overhead. As well as looking unfinished like a warehouse, there was major noise reverberation creating an unpleasant atmosphere for shoppers and staff.
The builders, Built QLD, were presented with several problems to overcome when lining the ceilings. These included difficulty concealing the fixing of any lining, eliminating the noise problem and meeting stringent BCA fire-hazard regulations while maintaining easy access to the services in the ceiling cavity. It was also important to achieve the look the designers wanted in a durable pleasing finish.
By choosing SUPACOUSTIC and SUPALINE all these problems were overcome. The panels were supplied with a complete concealed fixing system, are acoustic effective and meet BCA regulations. Importantly they come in a large range of hard wearing finishes, can be custom perforated and shaped, and allow for access above.
The end result is an uplifting ceiling in three colours, SUPAFINISH White, Matt Silver and custom perforated Euro Beech. All panels have been custom shaped to create an attractive pattern when installed. By choosing the SUPAWOOD lining system supplied complete from one source, lead times were met and the design intent achieved successfully.
