Axil achieves superior acoustic performance for primary school.
SUPATILE DIT drop-in acoustic ceiling tiles by SUPAWOOD have been used throughout both the library and multi-purpose hall at St Marks Primary School in Drummoyne NSW.
The designers, Axil Architects, wanted to introduce the aesthetics of wood while addressing noise echo in both these open areas as well as meeting all BCA regulations required for a school building. However, they were restricted by a very tight budget and a short construction time.
By using SUPAWOOD’s SUPATILE DIT drop-in tiles, the designers were able to overcome these restraints.
SUPATILE DIT is a pre-finished ceiling tile system which combines good looks with rapid installation into a T-bar grid and allows full access to services above. The system has superior and fully tested acoustic properties.

The designers chose SUPATILE DIT ceiling tiles in the rebate option, which gives a matching edge on the tiles creating a 25mm recessed shadow line. The finish chosen is a VOC free and durable SUPAFINISH concept veneer Fusion Maple in an acoustic stripe pattern set in a black grid with matching returns. The contrast between the timber finish and the black grid creates a stunning effect.
The 1200 x 600mm SUPATILE DIT tiles have been arranged in double rows and suspended just below the ceiling. Tiles have been placed around services and in the library between light wells. The tiles were also supplied with a fire retardant MDF substrate to meet the highest fire retardancy rating.
This project shows the versatility of SUPATILE DIT acoustic drop-in ceiling tiles to achieve superior acoustics and enhance the interior in a large space while meeting fast installation needs plus a tight budget.
