A flowing and cohesive space is achieved with matching finishes inside and out

A mix of internal and external SUPAWOOD products, including SUPASLAT in a Hoop Pine Classic concept veneer finish, and ALUCLICK in a textured woodgrain powdercoat finish, were used for the UNSW College of Fine Arts (CoFA), Block D project.
The project features a round slatted feature ceiling inside the building in the help zone area. To link with this slatted design, aluminium beams were used to create the external awning feature outside. For the university redevelopment project, MCA Architects were assigned with the design intention to achieve a functional, open and comfortable space which included multiple and different activities and areas. The design focused on evoking nature and outdoors by using greens, real moss and timber throughout the space. MCA wanted to differentiate all the areas without walls or space divisions, and ultimately achieved this with different materials, feature ceilings, feature walls and joinery.

One key feature of this project was that not only could the exterior beams be installed close together to achieve the desired design for the awning, they were also non-combustible.
Another special feature of the exterior beams was that sizes were alternated to achieve long spans, as well as provision to be able to integrate linear lights.
The SUPASLAT product used for the interior space was Fire Group 1 rated, as well as pre-shaped for ease of installation onsite.
