Ambient maritime feel created with slatted ceilings for world class hotel

Customised SUPASLAT ceiling panels have been used extensively in multiple areas over almost every level of the 6 star Ritz Carlton Hotel, located in Elizabeth Quay, one of Perth’s most prestigious waterside precincts.

The architects, Cottee Parker Architects, were asked to deliver a tower hotel with an interior which is uniquely Australian. Taking inspiration from key elements, unique to Western Australia, they aimed to create a palette which is a mix of natural and bespoke finishes. Therefore, to resonate with the maritime ambiance of the surroundings, they looked for a timber batten ceiling product to achieve this.

SUPASLAT batten panels, finished in a SUPAVENEER natural timber veneer on a FR MDF substrate, offered the ideal choice. Backed by SUPAWOOD’s Design, Supply and Install service, this slatted product could be customised to achieve the exact effect the designers required, while also meeting the required BCA requirements for the interior of a residential building.

The immense foyer with its sweeping double level atrium is enhanced using SUPASLAT ceilings on each level accumulating in a vast slatted ceiling over the whole space. To soften the bulkheads around the top slatted ceiling, these have been lined with slats on all sides, framing the area.

A timber slat ceiling has also been used to define the reception (above) and blends beautifully with materials used in this area. Here and elsewhere throughout, lighting, air-conditioning and other services have been carefully integrated into the ceilings.

On multiple levels from 6 to 18, the slatted timber ceilings have been continued to resonate the theme (below). Here in the lift lobbies, common areas and corridors the slats create a directional effect. Customised SUPASLAT panels can even be found on the ceilings of the lift cars. In all over 1000m2 of slatted panels have been applied throughout the building.

To achieve this design without any onsite dramas, SUPAWOOD worked closely with all concerned, by producing detailed shop-drawings and batten layout designs. Onsite visits were also a regular occurrence.

This project defines how SUPAWOOD can design, supply and oversee the install of complex customised linings while working closely with all stakeholders involved, to complete an outstanding, world class project.
